Side effects, contraindications and regulatory status

Reported side effects

  • Phase 2 trial, 114 analysed bowel-resection patients, ipamorelin 0.03 mg/kg intravenous twice daily for up to 7 days: any emergent adverse event in 87.5% of ipamorelin vs 94.8% of placebo patients; the authors report it was well tolerated (Beck 2014). Intravenous, hospital.[3] Human trial
  • FDA safety-risk page (503B category 2, added 2023-09-29): a published study identified serious adverse events including death when ipamorelin was given intravenously for gastric motility; FDA identified no safety information for other injectable routes.[2] Regulator or expert-panel statement

Regulatory status

Ipamorelin acetate is in FDA 503B category 2 (added 2023-09-29) and also in the 'nominated but withdrawn' table of the FDA safety-risk page (current 2026-04-22); no US label. Checked 2026-10-20.[2] Source
